Introduction
Adjoining The Mall at Mid Valley Southkey is this splendid hotel with an inventory of 575 keys and it comprises an Infinity swimming pool at Level 28, the The View Bar & Lounge on the same level along with the Gymnasium with 5 Function rooms, serving as the pivotal point for this hotel and also a fantastic view that overlooks the entire city.
It is located 7 km from the Singapore Woodlands Causeway Bridge and 38 km from Changi International Airport in Singapore, and is positioned approximately 26 km from Senai International Airport in the state of Johor in Malaysia.
We had a brilliant chill staycation over at St Giles Southkey Johor Bahru @stgilessouthkey at their Premier Room; absolute marvel of a place with a huge expanse on their 27th floor with a majestic ​and fantastic view overlooking Johor from all sides of the floor.
Accommodation
St. Giles Southkey has 575 hotel guestrooms, inclusive of urban room, family room, premier room, one bedroom suite and two bedroom suite. The rooms are fully equipped with a variety of amenities including wireless internet access, individually controlled air-conditioning, Coffee and tea making facilities, Mini refrigerator, In-room safe, Iron and ironing board, Washing machine and dryer (it was amazing to see this in my room, which means I can do my own laundry if I were to stay here for a few days in Johor). I also had a Kitchenette as I stayed in a Premier room and this is only available in Premier room & Suites.
Business Lounge
Being a premier room guest, I had the choice to have my breakfast at the Business Lounge (28th floor) or at the Causeway Cafe on the 6th floor, and I also partook my late afternoon snacks, meals and drinks/wines/beer at the Business Lounge between 5pm to 7pm. I was enthralled by 2 flocks of herons that fly past St Giles, each evening at 7:15pm.. as I watch the sunset and sipping my glass of wine, at the Business Lounge on the 28th floor (highest) and enjoying my private moment in peace and calm.
Food & Beverage Options
The View Bar & Lounge Causeway Cafe, situated on the 28th floor of the hotel at 200 meters above sea level, offers an ideal retreat to unwind with a variety of tropical and refreshing beverages while enjoying the sunset views.
We organized a chillout session with drinks at their infinity swimming pool and also engaged in drinks and dinner at their View bar and lounge area, that comes with either an outdoor option (bar) or an indoor option (lounge), to have a drink or watch telly on their big screen, simply wonderful!
The Causeway Café is a relaxed dining spot featuring a coffee/bar area and a refreshed concept, providing fresh, made-to-order open-air cooking. I had the opportunity to have a yummy set lunch at Causeway Cafe and also a awesome Eat All You Can Dinner buffet that occurs on Friday and Saturday each week, along with a full hoard of entertainment, complete with a face-changing mask Sichuan-originated regime and a magic show.. to the delight of the families and kids watching the entertainment spectacle during my Friday’s buffet session.
The Buffet Dinner happens every Friday & Saturday from 6:30pm - 10:00pm and their Buffet Lunch takes places every Saturday & Sunday from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. I ordered various portions ranging from local char kway teow, to local Hokkien mee, a Sirloin Steak and mushroom soup, and they were all delivered to me, with good wok-hey and it was just super tasty!
For the dinner buffet, I like the beef and chicken stay, it was truly well done, meat was tender and the satay sauce was one of the best I have tasted this decade, truly Malaysia boleh! The steamed chicken was also delicious and tasty with the rice, cucumber and tomato bits along with the power-packed chilli option.
Seasonal Promotions
Special Highlights that differentiate the Causeway Bay from other establishments include items like the Chinese Mask Changing Performance, super yummy branded Baskin Robbin Ice Cream, Grana Padano CheeseWheel Spaghetti which serves up a tempting rendition of a cheese-based offering, the Chuletas De Cordero with Romesco Sauce & Sweet Potato Fondant, and The Emperor Fried Rice and Thai Pla Rad Prik Crispy Seabass with Mango (both dishes have won them awards at the World Championships)
They currently run a series of F&B promotions and this include The Express Trio where they allow for a weekday series from 12:00pm - 3:00pm and some of the special highlights governing this Trip Highlight include Fish & Chips, Pepperichino Aglio Olio, Seafood XO Fried Rice, Mixed Fruit Platter, Sago Gula Melaka and Bread Butter Pudding
On every Thursday weekly, they have a Ladies’ Night Complimentary First Mocktail for all Ladies, 20% off on alcoholic bottle drinks before 9pm, and one can Dress in Pink to redeem one Pink Lady Cocktail. They also have a Magical Friday Night at 9:15pm each Friday evening.m Their seasonal promotion include something they called the BMW Deals consisting of Tiger Draught Beer at RM20+, Margarita at RM25+ or Wine at RM25+ and this occurs daily except Monday from 3pm - 7pm
St Giles Southkey is truly a wonderful hotel to stay with, if you are planning a trip to Johor and it's distinctive location next to a top shopping centre equipped with business commercial towers and a medical centre, gives it an impetus as a top choice for groups, MICE event groups, extended and young families, couples, corporates as a top choice for true vacation get-away!
