Timothy Oulton Reveals its 2017 Collection:
For the Lounger & the Entertainer
Timothy Oulton unveils its daring 2017 collection, exploring the archetypal experiences of the living room. In connecting with how people choose to live, two key modes emerge: relaxing and entertaining. The new collection has been created in consideration of these different lifestyles, brought to life in two distinctive design concepts called “Ultralounge” and “Hosted Living”.
The Ultralounge concept combines all the elements necessary for a new level of relaxation – a light and serene space for weekend lounging from the sofa, to unwind your mind and simply chill, uninterrupted. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Hosted Living concept is created for people who love to entertain, with elegant and refined pieces that spark a conversation, infusing and activating the senses with rich, contrasting textures and plenty of drama.
Ultralounge: Ultralounge builds on Timothy Oulton’s existing casual and rugged collections; Coastal Drift and Loft. New deep and slouchy sofas invite you to sink in, let go and release, while pared back storage keeps distractions hidden away and epic coffee tables anchor the room. New for 2017, the Alto sectional sofa is designed for the ultimate chill-out, featuring a double layer of pillows covered in the softest linen. Wide timber armrests between the seats hold everything you need to hand – as once you’re sat, you won’t want to move
Hosted Living: In contrast, the Hosted Living concept builds on the strength and glamour of the existing Age of Elegance collection but updates it with a little more urban modernity. Featuring supportive, upright sofas in rich and sumptuous new velvets and leathers, “conversation starter” coffee tables and bold brass cabinetry to display your favourite pieces. The new Den sofa in Revival Velvet features a high back and sides to create a feeling of intimacy for engaging conversations, while the Inception coffee table and mirror light up for after-dark drama, inspired by 1970s infinity mirrors.
Also new for 2017, Timothy Oulton continues to push the boundaries of leather work. A distinctive woven finish is featured on the Weave chair, using leather strips that have been woven by hand using a needle, to create a rich textural surface. The company’s first water-resistant leather is also introduced; Aussie is a nubuck finish that has been immersed in oil for many hours to soften the hide, creating a silky leather that also offers some practical resistance to spills. Expanding upon the highly original and innovative Vagabond leather range, this year also sees the introduction of blue and mustard finishes, hand-painted on the finished piece in lighter and darker hues to create an authentically aged effect.
Timothy Oulton continues its quest for new materials, and for 2017 introduces a cutting-edge finish called Carbonstone. This unique material is created using a technically complex carbon-based process to transform reclaimed shards of quartz into solid crystallised stone. Carbonstone is featured across the 2017 Collection in both lighting and furniture, including the new Polar hexagonal side tables.
New innovations in Timothy Oulton’s iconic lighting collection include the Classic Volt; a modern, featherweight version of the traditional chandelier, handcrafted from a simple wire frame that transfers the power to each bulb. Glamorous additions to the range include the Night Rod pendant and lamp, designed with staggered optical glass prisms for a shimmering dance of sparkle.
Tim: “The starting point for the new collection was really to connect with how people are using their homes, and then design specifically for those needs. Your home is where you connect with your family and friends, but people do this in different ways – and that’s what we’ve explored. The right design can provide the context, the platform and the catalyst for that connection. “With over 35 galleries worldwide from New York to Amsterdam and in the grandeur of Harrods in London, the company continues its plan of opening new stores in carefully selected ‘great cities’, with recent additions including Mexico City, New Delhi and Peru. Further openings are planned for 2017.
