Updated: Jul 29

Introduction

Each Sofitel draws inspiration from local culture and tradition while celebrating innovation and the French art de vivre to offer a one-of-a-kind, luxurious hotel experience. Consumers these days are focused on bettering their lives and contributing towards a better healthier world; through a hidden inner core and motivation towards eco-consciousness, hotels and resorts are making immense efforts to walk the sustainability talk and to plan and implement eco-friendly initiatives and measures in the daily operations of the hotel, truly vested to the preservation of the environment for generations to come.

Eco Ethos

Sustainability is one of the key driving forces at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, and this is clearly visible when one arrives at the welcome pavilion of the resorts, where natural air flow is omnipresent throughout the entire reception, the bar area (LeBar) to the swimming pool expanse; from the ventilation low-carbon perspective (air-conditioning is only is used in needed spaces (e.g. all-day dining restaurant Kwee Zeen, meeting spaces and rooms) to the use of wooden-centric room cards for entry, to the deployment of eco-criteria like biodegradable amenities and toiletries, which are intrinsically-linked to their environmental ethos

Architecture and Design

Set on 27 acres of lush tropical greenery and with unrestrained views of the South China Sea,, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, was rebranded in 2015 and it was designed by the late Australian architect Kerry Hill, and first opened in 1995 as the Beaufort hotel, and it was the first resort style hotel in Singapore. The Resort was designed as separate blocks similar to how the old British military buildings on Sentosa were being designed, and the present interiors were designed by French designers Beatrice Martinet and Pierre Maciag, blending the best of local culture with Sofitel’s French origins.

The Resort’s 33-metre black-pearlescent tiled pool is the main centrepiece of holiday attraction, with segments of families enjoying their vacation time together, along with other reflective pools, interspersed all across the various courtyards in the resort area. The sense of serenity of these water spaces culminate to provide a calm expanse to the lush greenery, and the sound of water restores and rejuvenates the mind and soul.

The Sofitel SPA is housed in a heritage building and was once known as Block 59 and it was one of the many buildings built by the British between the 1880s to the 1930s to accommodate their garrisons. When the British left Singapore, Block 59 was left empty and laid in a state of dilapidation until it was turned into a recreational building for The Beaufort. As the largest Sofitel SPA in the world, facilities include 14 treatment rooms, a private garden with a lap pool, an outdoor whirlpool and two waterfall pools; in addition to indoor hot and cold pools and steam rooms for each gender.

A sumptuous breakfast awaited us; both international and local cuisine, a full spread, live stations (egg - all types, noodles, salads, yoghurts, fruits, beverages - super tasty, which we enjoyed thoroughly during our stay. The line-up of gastronomic adventures in our was impeccable and truly shows the diversity of locally sourced ingredients, which is congruent with the resort theming.

F&B Tasting Review @ The Cliff

A wondrous treat at The Cliff located within the auspices of the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, where Chef Paolo Benedet delivers a range of authentic Southern Italian dishes that are filled with flavour, texture and gastronomic pleasure, and where the theme of sustainability is re-emphasized through their Farm-To-Table Recognition at the Highest Tier where at least 15 percent of their produce across three or more food categories are sourced locally in Singapore. Much of the organic produce comes from their gardens grown within the Resort and the theme of sustainability is well emphasised once more, to illustrate the importance to support this movement.

The Cliff has two private dining rooms, which makes it an ideal setting for celebratory dining occasions. At the outdoor deck every evening from 5pm to 7pm, diners can take in views of the sunset in the horizon as they partake in the Sunset Aperitivo, replete with free-flowing house wine, beer, Prosecco and a platter of canapés. The Cliff is ideal for corporate events and dinners, and their chefs can create customised menus that befits the occasion and you can review their Restaurants & Bar Celebrations & Events brochure

Our four-course dinner menu for our review comprised a selection of various delightful dishes ; we chose the Grilled Octopus - a tasty Chargrilled Octopus Leg prepared with Cauliflower Purée and a dash of Iberico Chorizo; also we had the Crab Meat Tonnarelli with a generous spread of Squid Ink Tonnarelli Pasta, Bottarga, fresh Bell Pepper and Cherry Tomatoes. Along came the Cod Fish, an exquisite plate ofCod that is wrapped in Parma Ham, yummy and rich Lobster Bisque and Garlic-Butter Sautéed Spinach; absolutely marvelous!

The Beef Cheeks is well savored with a 24-hour Braised format, and we can taste the succulence of this amazing dish that is gently cooked to perfection with mashed Japanese Purple Potato and Kale. For dessert, we sampled the Mango Tart & Coconut Gelato - the mix of flavours from sweet to sour was well melangé with the tart structure and chocolate chippings. We had the Delamotte Brut Champagne, the Ellevin Chablis Jean Pierre & Alexandre 2022 along with the Amarone Della Valpolicella Gaicomo from Veneto 2019 to go with our bevy of amazing dishes. Simply wonderful! Sustainable Meal! Highly Recommended!
