- He Xiangning: Ink and Intent • National Gallery Singapore
National Gallery Singapore, in partnership with the He Xiangning Art Museum, presents He Xiangning: Ink and Intent , the first Southeast Asian retrospective dedicated to the trailblazing 20th-century Chinese female ink artist. Opening on 1 April 2026, this bilingual exhibition showcases over 50 artworks across four chronological sections, charting He Xiangning’s (何香凝) extraordinary life and artistic journey spanning seven decades. Specially tailored for its Singapore showing, the exhibition emphasizes the artist’s historical ties with Southeast Asia, including her 1929 visits to Singapore and the Philippines, where she organized charity art exhibitions with the backing of local and overseas Chinese communities. The curation of this artist is captivating and mesmerizing, highlighting her life, contributions, cultural links, devotion, travels, craft, and the juxtaposition of these elements to create a comprehensive journey and experience of her Intent in assembling the Art. Exquisite! Born in 1878, He Xiangning was a renowned Chinese ink painter, revolutionary, and social activist. Her artworks are closely linked with the social and cultural evolution of modern China. Beyond her artistic endeavors, He was actively engaged in the political movements of her era and was among the first women to join the Tongmenghui —a revolutionary alliance established in 1905 to overthrow the Qing dynasty. In the following decades, she remained a significant figure in China. A staunch advocate for women’s rights, she became a leading figure in the early women’s liberation movement and organized one of the country’s first International Women’s Day rallies in 1924. Leveraging the ongoing collaboration between both institutions, He Xiangning: Ink and Intent goes beyond the usual focus on He’s political career to offer a distinctive curatorial narrative that positions the artist as a pioneering figure in social, political, and artistic realms. The exhibition provides an in-depth exploration of her practice over different periods, showcasing her lasting impact on modern Chinese ink painting. This exhibition builds on the collaboration between National Gallery Singapore and the He Xiangning Art Museum, following Georgette Chen: At Home in the World , which traveled to Shenzhen from 9 August to 7 December 2025. Dr. Eugene Tan, CEO and Director of National Gallery Singapore, states, “Ink has always been a central research and curatorial focus for the Gallery. We have had the privilege of presenting comprehensive exhibitions on ink masters like Wu Guanzhong and Liu Kuo-Sung. Presenting Southeast Asia's first retrospective dedicated to He Xiangning is thus a deeply significant milestone. We hope visitors will gain a deeper appreciation of her pivotal contributions to modern Chinese ink painting and her enduring legacy as a pioneering woman artist of the twentieth century. This collaboration with He Xiangning Art Museum also reflects the Gallery’s continued commitment to advancing ink scholarship and fostering meaningful dialogue between Singapore, Southeast Asia, and the wider world through collaborative research and exhibitions.” Cheng Bin, Deputy Director of He Xiangning Art Museum, says, “We are honored to collaborate with National Gallery Singapore to present He Xiangning: Ink and Intent to audiences in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Our institutions share a commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue through exhibitions and scholarly exchange. Last year, we had the opportunity to present Georgette Chen: At Home in the World in Shenzhen, an exhibition that introduced visitors to the works and practices of one of Singapore’s pioneering women artists. The exhibition was extremely well-received, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with the Gallery to expand perspectives and deepen understanding of the influential women artists from the 20th century with the presentation of He Xiangning: Ink and Intent in Singapore.” He Xiangning: Ink and Intent offers a chronological view of the artist’s life and career, beginning with In Remembrance of Shuangqing Studio (1878–1925) , which explores He’s early artistic education in Japan, where she studied under the Japanese imperial court painter Tanaka Raishō in 1908. During this time, she began painting lions and tigers—motifs that later symbolized national strength and revival. The second section, The Friends of Winter by the Shores of Baima Lake (1926–1937) , examines He Xiangning’s move to Shanghai and Shaoxing, where she joined several literary and artistic groups, including the Friends of Winter Society. During this period, she transitioned from the meticulous style of her early works on silk to working in ink on paper. In 1929, He traveled to Southeast Asia and Europe, bringing over 300 artworks to host fundraising art exhibitions in Manila and Singapore, where she met overseas Chinese students and leaders, including key figures like Khoo Seok Wan. After the 1931 Manchurian Incident, she returned to China to lead national civic activities, including organizing the Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition for the Relief of National Crisis. War and Frontier at Dusk (1938-1948) examines He’s artistic practice and personal life during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the onset of the Second World War, as reflected in her artworks and personal letters. Despite limited resources, she continued to use art to rally support and express her patriotic ideals. The final section, Longevity in Art and Life (1949-1972) , explores He’s practice after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Characterized by artist collaborations and reflection, the works in this section reveal how she continued to explore and play a key role in shaping the development of modern Chinese ink art in her later years. Visitors can further engage with the exhibition through a self-guided learning station exploring He Xiangning’s artistic world, including her poetry and recurring motifs such as pine, lions, and tigers. Poetry cards featuring her verses in Chinese and English are available for selection, and visitors may personalize them using stamps inspired by her signature imagery. They are also encouraged to respond to reflective prompts through writing or drawing, with the option of contributing to a communal display that will evolve over the course of the exhibition. The learning station offers an educational introduction to He’s artistic style, highlighting her use of symbolism and the integration of poetry and painting in her Chinese ink works. - Thanying & Grand Vin • Thai Food Pairing Experience
Since 1988, Thanying has been a key player in the realm of fine Thai dining in Singapore. Situated in Amara Singapore, it is famed for providing a genuine culinary journey rooted in royal Thai customs, enhanced with contemporary sophistication. Each dish is meticulously crafted, paying homage to traditional recipes while ensuring an elegant and memorable dining experience. Rosette Media Rating : 8.8/10 (for Thanying) Recognized as a trailblazer in Thai dining since 1988, Thanying at Amara Singapore embarks on a new culinary journey in royal Thai cuisine with updated à la carte dishes and set menus, alongside a new Executive Set Lunch menu, curated by Head Chef Tamawat Itthipornwithool (Chef Gust). Having progressed from Assistant Head Chef to his current position, Chef Gust now brings his unique blend of authentic flavors and modern presentation to Thanying’s kitchen. His debut menu update honors the restaurant’s legacy while introducing a youthful, creative spirit that respects centuries of Thai culinary tradition with a distinctly modern voice. Carefully prepared to respect the culinary traditions of Thailand’s royal courts, Thanying’s menu update features 19 new dishes alongside beloved classics, showcasing the balance of authenticity and modern culinary artistry that defines the restaurant. Thanying’s new chapter goes beyond the kitchen, offering a range of new experiences that enhance the dining journey while staying true to its roots. To further enhance the culinary experience, Thanying introduces a curated wine list developed with Grand Vin, featuring champagnes and premium wines thoughtfully chosen to complement the complex spices and aromas of Thai cuisine. Beyond the dining table, guests can look forward to a new website and e-shop, integrating online reservations, takeaway, and delivery, seamlessly bridging the dine-in and home experience. As 2026 approaches, Thanying will continue its tradition of innovation with wine-pairing dinners with Grand Vin, weekend brunches, themed weekday dinners, and bespoke celebration packages for weddings, solemnisations, and private events, reaffirming its position as Singapore’s most enduring destination for authentic royal Thai cuisine. Guests can enjoy specially curated multi-course wine pairing dinners, where a selection of wines from Grand Vin will be thoughtfully paired with Thanying’s signature dishes. The menu highlights the elegance and complexity of Royal Thai flavors, offering a refined dining experience that demonstrates how carefully selected wines can enhance the balance of herbs, spices, and textures that define traditional Thai cuisine. We sampled the following dishes and wines, to give our thoughtful reviews of their pairing connections:- Yam Salmon & Tom Yum Goong (Paired with Domaine Billaud-Simon – Chablis 2023) – Seared salmon with sesame, mixed greens, and spicy sour dressing, alongside a comforting bowl of Thai prawn soup infused with mushrooms, kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass, and chili, lifted by the crisp minerality of Chablis. We loved the Chablis and it juxtaposed well with the slight tangy flavour from both the dressing and the yummy soup. Grilled Pork Jowl & Herb-Stuffed Chicken Wings (Paired with Domaine Faiveley – Mercurey Vieilles Vignes 2023) – Boneless chicken wings stuffed with minced chicken and Thai herbs, served with succulent grilled pork jowl in Thai sauce, complemented by the elegance and structure of Mercurey Vieilles Vignes, which was pinot noir driven, and it reminded me of their signature dish, the Peek Gai Sod, which continues to embody the restaurant’s dedication to royal Thai cuisine. Each boneless chicken wing is meticulously deboned, stuffed with minced chicken and Thai herbs, baked, and deep-fried to order, resulting in a crisp exterior and tender, flavorful filling. The preparation takes a full day, exemplifying the discipline and artistry of traditional fine Thai cooking. Massaman Curry (Paired with Château Bourgneuf – Pomerol 2019) – A rich and aromatic Massaman curry with beef or chicken, onions, and potatoes served with rice, beautifully matched with the velvety depth and refined texture of a classic Pomerol. We have already enjoyed Thai curry and this is no exception. The fact that Grand Vin bothers to bring in a powerful Bordeaux right bank shows their dedication to their craft, and it went amazingly well with the curry concoction for this dish. Mango Champagne Jelly with Coconut Ice Cream – A refreshing dessert of mango champagne jelly paired with creamy coconut ice cream, offering a light and indulgent finale to the evening. Simple exquisite, and a nice delightway way to complete our culinary Thai-based experience. These dishes join an array of Thanying’s most beloved recipes that exemplify Thanying’s devotion to craftsmanship and precision, where even the smallest seeds and piths are removed by hand to achieve smooth textures and balanced flavors, hallmarks of authentic royal Thai dining. W ELCOME TO THE WORLD OF RAUTER GLOBAL! Origin The story of RAUTER began in 2019, not with capital, structure, or guarantees, but with determination, courage, and an idea that refused to remain just on paper. Hislley Rauter knew what he wanted to create, even without knowing exactly how. Starting meant failing, learning quickly, and moving forward when giving up seemed the easiest option. The initial steps were solitary, with every decision made under limited resources, sleepless nights, and a silent pressure to succeed without losing the essence. Over time, RAUTER expanded beyond borders. Part of its production moved outside Brazil, connecting cultures and elevating the brand's technical level. Yet, the essence remained intact: sophistication with truth, luxury with meaning, exclusivity with soul. Global Recycled Standard (GRS): Verification that materials are truly recycled and traceable. WRAP: Certification ensuring ethical and humane working conditions. Sustainability Every Rauter short carries a story that begins long before it reaches your hands. A journey that starts in the depths of the ocean, on forgotten shores, where what was once waste finds new purpose. More than 11 million tons of plastic enter our oceans every year, with 80% coming from rivers. Among the most common pollutants are PET bottles, fishing nets, and disposable packaging. By transforming these discarded materials into threads of high-performance recycled nylon, we help break this cycle. For every kilogram of recycled nylon produced, around 70 PET bottles are recovered, consuming up to 75% less energy and reducing carbon emissions by as much as 90%. The result is a lightweight, durable, and refined fabric designed to endure. Each detail reflects Rauter’s quiet commitment to harmony between luxury and responsibility. Packaging At Rauter, packaging is an essential extension of their philosophy: refined, meaningful, and crafted with intention. Their velvet pouches are used for standard clients, offering a soft and elegant unboxing experience with Brazilian identity. For their Club members, each piece is delivered inside their signature rigid box, wrapped with their exclusive embossed ribbon, symbolizing sophistication and exclusivity. Every detail is designed to create emotion, presence, and lasting memory. They are open to collaborating with brands, hotels, beach clubs, galleries, and design houses that share their commitment to quality and long-term vision. From capsule collections and co-created pieces to custom uniforms and exclusive projects, their focus is on building partnerships that feel coherent, discreet, and truly aligned with their DNA: Brazilian roots, global sophistication, and a deep connection to the ocean. Together with these partners, they aim to create objects and experiences that are both precise and emotional — pieces that age beautifully and carry meaning. - Sake Matsuri 2026
From a niche gathering of sake enthusiasts to Southeast Asia’s largest sake festival, Singapore-founded Sake Matsuri marks its 12th edition from 28 to 29 March 2026 with its biggest showcase yet. As cherry blossoms bloom across Japan this March, festival-goers in Singapore can join in the seasonal celebration of Japanese culture, craftsmanship and lifestyle at Sake Matsuri at the iconic F1 Pit Building. This year’s expanded edition will feature more than 500 labels of Japanese sake and spirits, spanning two fully air-conditioned halls — one dedicated entirely to sake, and the other spotlighting a curated spirits selection. A festival bar run by Japanese speakeasy Shin Gi Tai will serve up cocktails made with selected spirits, concocted by bartender-owner Anthony Zhong, who honed his skills in Ginza’s legendary Coffee Bar K. Sake Matsuri tickets start from $55 per person for a 3-hour free-flow tasting session. VIP all-day access passes are available at $128 per person or $248 a pair, providing priority access to masterclasses. A wider celebration of Japanese craft and culture Deepening its cultural showcase, Sake Matsuri will introduce the Matsuri Vintage Market in collaboration with The Retro Factory. The market brings together more than 20 vendors presenting a distinctive mix of collectible and artisanal finds — from rare records with a focus on Japanese virgin vinyl to handcrafted jewellery, timepieces, bespoke millinery and retro fashion. A coffee pop-up by Oatly, presented in collaboration with Narrative Coffee, will also be part of the space. The Matsuri Vintage Market is located in an unticketed area and is open to the public. The first 200 visitors each day who follow the Instagram accounts of Sake Matsuri, Oatly and Narrative will receive a complimentary Oatly signature beverage. Level 1 will also host a vibrant line-up of gourmet food and live entertainment, rounding out the festival atmosphere. Odem, The Oyster Cart, Fatt Choy Eating House, Yoppi, Tensei, Ye Olde Cow and Assumption Fine Foods will serve up festival-ready bites designed to pair seamlessly with sake, spirits and beer. Singapore indie rock band freereina! will perform original tracks live, while DJs Itch, Minimal Simplicity, and Hiddy keep the energy high throughout the weekend. New-to-Singapore labels and rare bottlings take centrestage Known as the festival to watch for new sake discoveries, Sake Matsuri will once again present exceptional sake selections not previously available in Singapore for free-flow tasting. Among the highlights is Yamamoto Honke, a Kyoto-based brewery from the historic Fushimi region — one of the city’s most prominent sake-producing areas due to its abundance of pristine underground water. Established in 1677 and currently helmed by the 11th generation of the Yamamoto family, the brewery uses “Shirakikusui”, a natural soft spring water known for its richness and clarity, to craft its refined sake expressions. At the festival, the debuting brewery will showcase its Gold Medal-winning sakes, including its flagship Shinsei Iwai Junmai Daiginjo and Matsu no Midori Junmai Daiginjo. Also available is Yuzu Omoi, a delicate blend of fresh yuzu and sake, offered in limited quantities due to scarce harvests in recent years. Yuzu Omoi can be enjoyed on its own or used as a versatile mixer — for instance, paired with champagne to create a refreshing spritzer perfectly suited for tropical weather. Another brewery to watch is Tonoike Shuzo, founded in 1937 by Itsugoro Tonoike, whose family began brewing sake in Tochigi Prefecture in 1829. The brewery ranked 4th in the world at the 2019 “World Sakagura Ranking”, which awards breweries based on their performance in major international sake competitions. The brewery’s Bo series reflects a focus on the Junmai style, with each expression produced as Muroka Genshu (unfiltered and undiluted) at 16% ABV. These sakes are characterised by firm acidity, clarity and structure, balanced by a rounded sweetness suited to food pairing. The Bo Junmai Daiginjo Omachi Muroka Nama Genshu is a premium sake brewed with Omachi rice, known for its pronounced umami and depth. Despite its concentration, careful temperature control during pasteurisation preserves freshness and lift. It shows layered aromatics and a long, savoury finish. In the spirits hall, pass-holders can taste Kozo Sweet Potato Shochu, making its Singapore debut at Sake Matsuri. Produced in Kushima, Miyazaki Prefecture, using Kogane Sengan sweet potatoes, Japanese rice, and natural spring water, this expression reflects the region’s long-standing shochu-making tradition. Fermented with black koji and matured in unglazed earthenware jars buried underground, it develops a deep, full-bodied profile with pronounced umami and aroma. It can be enjoyed on the rocks, with soda, or with hot water. Festival-goers who wish to dive deeper into sake can attend a series of masterclasses over the weekend, including two by Asia’s Sake Samurais – Adrian Goh, co-founder of Sake Matsuri and Director of Singapore’s Inter Rice Asia, and Elliot Faber, founding Beverage Director of Michelin-starred Yardbird Hong Kong. In line with the expanded focus on Japanese spirits, Chandrakant Mohanty, founder of spirits retailer Mizunara, will conduct a masterclass on Shochu. This year, the festival continues to partner BE WTR. As Sake Matsuri’s Water & Sustainability Partner, the B-Corp certified brand will present their locally bottled, premium still and sparkling water for hydration between sake tastings. The bottles are collected for reuse at the end of the event, creating a circular system with zero single-use waste. Tickets can be purchased from www.sakematsuri.sg .
- Flesh and Bones: The Art of Anatomy
The ArtScience Museum is delving beneath the surface to explore various viewpoints on the universally recognizable human body. Debuting on 21 March 2026, Flesh and Bones: The Art of Anatomy combines art, science, memory, and tradition to examine how the human body has been studied, envisioned, and depicted throughout different eras and cultures, from its external form to its concealed inner workings. This exhibition explores the history, origins, and thought processes that have shaped human anatomy from ancient times through scientific discovery and transformation, illustrating how the human element has evolved over time to capture the essence of our species. In celebration of ArtScience Museum’s 15 th anniversary, the exhibition features over 160 artefacts and artworks unveiling the human body's interior. It includes historical masterpieces such as life-sized illustrations, anatomical atlases, medical manuscripts, and rare, delicate books from a project initiated at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles in 2022, curated by Dr. Monique Kornell. This updated version of Flesh and Bones has been expanded and reimagined by ArtScience Museum, in collaboration with Getty, to include stories and medical traditions from Asia, alongside 33 significant contemporary artworks and installations that provide new perspectives on viewing the body. The exhibition begins with The Network Within (2026), a striking new site-specific installation by Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota. Another highlight is a collection of large-scale anatomical engravings by Antonio Cattani, created in Italy in the late eighteenth century. These are among the most accomplished visualizations of the dissected human body, presented alongside the anatomically precise yet speculative figures by Hong Kong-based artist Angela Su, illustrating how the human body is continually reinterpreted across different cultures and times. The exhibition also includes a gallery dedicated to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), featuring over 40 items on loan from the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This collection, ranging from ancient medical texts and instruments to charts, scrolls, and diagrams, offers an educational introduction to TCM. Moreover, visitors will have the unique opportunity to see 20 human body specimens — 15 pathological specimens on loan from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine’s Anatomy Department, and five plastinated specimens from the Institute for Plastination in Germany. Displayed alongside an exhibit on the Silent Mentor programme and reflections from medical students, this section emphasizes the empathy, respect, and humanistic values fundamental to anatomical learning in Singapore. https://www.marinabaysands.com/museum/exhibitions/flesh-and-bones.html

Housed in the former Tao Nan School, established in 1912, it features one of the world’s premier public collections of Peranakan artifacts. The museum’s three floors delve into Peranakan life through themes of origins, home, and style as elements of identity. Visitors can enjoy community interviews, recorded demonstrations, art commissions, and other modern expressions of Peranakan culture, prompting them to ponder: “what is Peranakan?”. The museum is a department of ACM, under the National Heritage Board. The Peranakan Museum’s annual Armenian Street Party returns for its tenth year from 13 to 15 March 2026, transforming Armenian Street with performances, art installations, culinary pop-ups, workshops, and community programs celebrating the richness of Peranakan culture. This edition is presented in collaboration with the Peranakan Association Singapore, Gunong Sayang Association, Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association of Singapore, and the Arab Network@Singapore. Clement Onn, Director of Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum, stated, “Armenian Street Party invites everyone to enjoy the vibrancy of Peranakan culture through food, fashion, performance, and craft workshops. Together with our community partners, we are excited to welcome visitors to the museum to experience and celebrate Peranakan culture in innovative and meaningful ways.” Mixed media artist Dawn Koh’s 3.5 x 3 meter art installation Threads of Gathering , displayed in front of the Peranakan Museum facade, offers a living tapestry of art, heritage, and community. Inspired by the museum’s collection and the special exhibition Peacock Power: Beauty and Symbolism Across Cultures , the installation includes butterflies, peacocks, birds, and other motifs symbolizing transformation and connection. Visitors are encouraged to interact with and contribute to the installation. Under the direction of theatre veteran and Cultural Medallion recipient Alvin Tan, The Necessary Stage will debut a new work, Tapestry , reimagining three Peranakan stories for modern audiences. Other highlights include Hati Kampong Chorus , an expanded intergenerational community performance by the Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association of Singapore, featuring local performers and migrant workers. In collaboration with Singapore’s national media network, Mediacorp, the festival immerses visitors in the world of the English drama Aunty Lee’s Deadly Delights through a mystery-themed experiential takeover of the museum’s Ixora Room, along with cast appearances and meet-and-greet sessions. Based on Ovidia Yu’s popular literary series, the drama follows Rosie “Aunty” Lee, a Peranakan restaurant owner and amateur detective, as she solves local mysteries. It is currently available on mewatch and Mediacorp Drama on YouTube and airs Monday to Thursday at 8.30pm on Channel 5! Cast members will participate in cooking demonstrations alongside Peranakan chef Nyonya Shirley Tay of Dapor Diva, and meet-and-greet sessions will feature stars Vernetta Lopez, Pierre Png, Norman Ishak, Alawdin Ali, Sheryl Ang, and Erika Maguicay. Food programs include Kueh & Kopi , a picnic experience featuring a box of kueh crafted by chefs from Allspice Institute, in collaboration with the Peranakan Association Singapore, Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association of Singapore, and Arab Network@Singapore. Each set comes with a special drink by suns Living Room, along with exclusive merchandise from the Peranakan Museum. For the first time, the Armenian Street Party will also feature O’ My Darling, a food truck by Old Chang Kee offering a specially curated menu. Sweet Spot, a Peranakan dessert pop-up, presents sweets inspired by traditional Peranakan flavors. Words, games, and art Members of Baba Gabra, a community group focused on preserving the Baba Malay language, will spontaneously create personalized pantuns (poems in Baba Malay) with English translations for visitors. The museum is also reviving its popular Literary Showcase, featuring a curated collection of titles celebrating the written traditions and stories that continue to shape Peranakan identity, supported by the National Library Board. Various workshops inspired by the vibrant florals, fragrant herbs, and aromatic spices commonly used in Peranakan culture will also be available. Adventure seekers can participate in the Armenian Street Party Bingo Challenge to win tasty rewards, or join a game of Peranakan: Tiles & Tactics! hosted by Genie Games. Visitors can enhance their experience by trying on a Baba Nyonya Dress Up! photo opportunity. Armenian Street Party: A Peranakan Gathering runs from 13 to 15 March 2026. Admission to the festival is free, with some ticketed programs and activities requiring pre-registration. https://www.nhb.gov.sg/peranakanmuseum/whatson/programmes/a-peranakan-gathering
- Singapore International Festival of Arts • SIFA 2026
As Singapore’s premier annual performing arts festival, the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), organized by Arts House Group, showcases engaging and varied works across theatre, music, dance, film, and visual arts. Originating as the Singapore Festival of Arts in 1977, the Festival has evolved over the years, inspiring generations of art enthusiasts and practitioners. Today, the eagerly awaited Festival is a highlight of Singapore’s arts and cultural scene. SIFA remains committed to its mission of promoting the creation and presentation of both Singaporean and international works. From 15-30 May 2026, the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) transforms stages and public spaces into sites of play. Under the theme “Let’s Play!”, SIFA encourages audiences to explore, experiment, engage, and be inspired by the arts. From dawn soundscapes along the river to aerial performers suspended 25 feet in the air at Punggol, this year’s Festival invites audiences to rediscover the joy and significance of coming together through art. Organised by Arts House Group and commissioned by the National Arts Council (NAC), SIFA 2026 celebrates the Festival as a living, evolving archive, honoring heritage, nurturing local talent, and envisioning new possibilities for artistic expression. Celebrating 49 years of artistic excellence , SIFA 2026 – Let's Play! introduces an ambitious three-year curatorial arc led by Festival Director Chong Tze Chien. Titled Legacy (2026), Roots (2027), and Renaissance (2028), the trilogy traces Singapore’s performing arts landscape — honouring the past, examining the present, and imagining the future. A NEW THREE-YEAR VISION SIFA’s next chapter unfolds as a long-term artistic journey: ● SIFA 2026: Legacy The opening year pays tribute to the foundations of contemporary practice. Legacy asks: What do we inherit? And what do we choose to carry forward? Through works that address mortality, artistic lineage, and cultural memory, SIFA 2026 brings the past to life. ● SIFA 2027: Roots Marking SIFA’s 50th anniversary, Roots revisits the Festival’s beginnings, celebrates our pioneers, and sparks intergenerational dialogues within Singapore’s arts community. ● SIFA 2028: Renaissance Culminating in Renaissance , the Festival highlights hybrid forms, emerging voices, and bold experimentation where tradition and the future meet. "The evolution of SIFA and its impact on local performing arts and culture resonates over generations,” says Mr. Chong Tze Chien, Festival Director, SIFA. “We invite artists and audiences to reflect on the foundations that shape contemporary practice and our current standing. We encourage audiences to step out to engage and discover, and step into that dialogue: to be moved, surprised, and inspired. The Festival serves as a conduit for diverse audiences to feel the energy and possibilities of the arts, and to reap creatively and artistically through what the Festival is and what it can be." FIVE PROGRAMME PILLARS SIFA’s five programming pillars offer multiple pathways for audiences to experience the arts on their own terms: ● Festival Stage: Large-scale performances featuring local and international works. ● Festival Village: A hub of communal engagement, interactive installations, and outdoor performances, returning in 2026 with a vibrant, nostalgic festive spirit. ● Festival Play!Ground: Experiential and participatory works including a vibrant roving parade designed for families, young audiences, and first-time festivalgoers. ● Festival House: Immersive, family-friendly performances, workshops, and talks that deepen understanding and engagement with the arts. ● Festival Late Nites: Night-time programming that encourages playful and experimental encounters. Together, these pillars create a vibrant constellation of performances, installations, and encounters, extending across indoor and outdoor spaces, varying scales, and extended timeframes: from epic productions to immersive, participatory works. Free performances, public installations, and communal spaces will also capture the Festival's pulse from dusk to dawn, on the Festival grounds and beyond. “SIFA 2026 celebrates Singapore’s artistic heritage while embracing bold experimentation,” says Ms. Sharon Tan, Executive Director of Arts House Group. “Through immersive experiences, public engagement, and accessible programmes, we are committed to elevating SIFA as a festival deeply loved by locals and recognized internationally, bringing artists and audiences together to experience the transformative power of the arts.” KEY HIGHLIGHTS At the heart of SIFA 2026 is the long-awaited return of the Festival Village at the Empress Lawn extending to the Anderson Bridge — a free, open-access hub for gathering, encounters, and artistic play. 1. Return of the Festival Village Inspired by the festive spirit of the 1990s and early 2000s, the Festival Village is designed as a central strand of SIFA’s three-year arc, bringing together indoor and outdoor performances, interactive installations, parades, and participatory experiences that extend from late night into the early morning. It will feature works such as: ● Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming 《记忆游泳池》by The Theatre Practice - transforming the Village into a communal music and movement space rooted in intergenerational exchange. ● RUPTURE by The Observatory - a dawn sound installation drawing on seismic research, volcanic activity, and mythology. ● Makan Culture at the Festival Market - an interactive celebration of Singapore’s beloved dishes through puppetry, music, and theatre. Extending its immersive offerings, SIFA 2026 presents AUTOMATA , a late-night series curated by Hothouse (Singapore) as part of Festival Late Nites bringing filmmakers, programmers, movement artists, musicians, and machinists to explore ritual, repetition, and mechanical bodies through film, movement, and sound. 2. Diversity Futures: A Transnational Think Tank SIFA 2026 also launches Diversity Futures: A Transnational Creative Think Tank , a three-year initiative connecting emerging artists from The National Theater Company of Korea’s young directors programme, and Hong Kong Arts Festival’s No Limits platform, with their peers and counterparts from Singapore. Through residencies, labs, and collaborative experiments, Diversity Futures seeks to reimagine inclusive and sustainable creative practice across Asian contexts. 3. A Festival for All Building on the positive public response to last year’s SIFA Pavilion at Bedok Town Square, SIFA’s Festival Play!Ground at Nexus, Punggol Digital District extends SIFA’s commitment to community outreach by bringing large-scale and high-impact artistic experiences into the heartlands. Conceived as a platform for public engagement and shared encounters, this activation invites residents and visitors alike to experience festival works beyond traditional performance venues. Driving this outreach is Noli Timere (United States/Canada), a soaring aerial performance that unfolds across the Festival Village before arriving at Nexus, Punggol Digital District. The result of a five-year collaboration between Guggenheim Fellowship recipients Rebecca Lazier and Janet Echelman, the work features a specially designed, voluminous net sculpture animated by eight multidisciplinary performers. Comprising contemporary dance and avant-garde circus with public sculpture, social practice, and advanced engineering, Noli Timere marks its Asia premiere and transforms the urban landscape into a shared site of wonder. Choreographed to an original score by Quebecois composer JORANE, the performance presents aerial artists suspended up to 25 feet in the air, moving upon and within the sculptural form. Its presentation at Nexus underscores SIFA’s vision of Festival Play!Ground as a space where art meets community, expanding access and reimagining how performing arts can enliven everyday spaces. “NAC commissioned SIFA to be a festival that showcases our nation’s cultural identity and strengthens our connection with each other. SIFA’s line-up this year aims to transform our city into a living stage that makes the arts accessible while showcasing the creativity of our artists. Audiences have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the local and international performances put together by SIFA,” adds Mrs. Elaine Ng, CEO of NAC. 4. From Singapore to the World: A Stage Without Borders SIFA 2026 brings together powerful artistic voices from Singapore and around the world, reflecting both innovation and heritage while nurturing cross-border collaboration. ● Lush Life (Singapore): Two of Singapore’s most distinctive and contrasting musical voices come together in a bold new collaboration, pairing the audiophile-grade jazz stylings of Jacintha Abisheganaden with the bohemian pop sensibility of Dick Lee. Directed by internationally acclaimed Singaporean director Ong Keng Sen, Lush Life unfolds as an intimate documentary performance, weaving together their lives, artistry, and enduring connections in a layered portrait of music, memory, and identity. ● Salesman 之死 (Singapore): Written by Jeremy Tiang and directed by Danny Yeo, this play centers on Arthur Miller’s 1983 visit to Beijing to direct the first Chinese production of Death of a Salesman, a landmark staging that was brought to Singapore in 1986 by pioneer of Singapore theatre Kuo Pao Kun. Marking 40 years since that Singapore presentation in the Victoria Theatre, the new iteration, Salesman 之死 unfolds as a multilingual tale of cultural confusion, impossible translation, and unexpected encounters amid the chaos of theatre making. ● YOU ARE (NOT) WHAT YOU EAT! (Singapore) by Yang Derong - a kaleidoscopic installation reflecting on Singapore’s food culture and plastic consumption. ● Strangely Familiar 《熟悉的陌生》(Singapore): A transcultural dance production by T.H.E Dance Company, co-created in collaboration with artists and designers from the region, combines live performers and digital embodiments to explore how culture, digital identities, and everyday norms intertwine in contemporary lives. ● LACRIMA (France): French director, author, and filmmaker Caroline Guiela Nguyen’s epic drama explores the human and social worlds behind a fictional Parisian haute couture commission for a royal wedding. Moving between workshops, families, and continents, the work brings together professional actors and non-professional performers to examine labour, secrecy, and the emotional weight carried by those whose hands create objects of desire. ● Hedda Gabler (South Korea): A contemporary reimagining of Ibsen’s classic, starring one of the most prominent South Korean actresses in the 1980s Lee Hye-young as the iconic heroine, exploring desire, frustration, and societal constraints with striking theatrical precision. ● Hamlet (Peru): A group of people with Down syndrome take the stage to share their desires and frustrations through a reimagining of Hamlet . The play is built between Shakespeare’s text and the actors' lives, and it takes as its starting point the question he asks us about existence. To be or not to be? What does it mean to be for people who can’t find spaces where they are not considered? ● Tempo (Sweden/Brazil): An exploration of time’s elasticity through text, movement, and stage illusions, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences where gravity, speed, and perception dissolve. ● Planet [wanderer] (France/Japan): Materialised as an intriguing result of a collaboration between choreographer Damien Jalet and scenographer Kohei Nawa, where they confront the bodies of the eight dancers with the materials and textures of the scenography to create a story of the visceral bond between people and planet. “By bringing in world-class performances directly into our communities, SIFA’s diverse programming enriches Singapore’s vibrancy while strengthening our position as a premier cultural hub. The Festival offers visitors an authentic taste of our cosmopolitan identity and reinforces Singapore’s appeal as a must-visit destination,” said Ms. Guo Teyi, Director, Leisure Events, Singapore Tourism Board. Tickets and Early Bird Promotion SIFA 2026 runs from 15 to 30 May 2026. Early bird tickets (20% savings) are available from 12 March, 4pm via sifa.sg. Selected programmes are eligible for the SG Culture Pass. Website: www.sifa.sg
