NYB AI
Developing a new drug can require up to 15 years and cost US$2.5 billion per drug. The process starts with drug discovery, which involves reducing millions of candidates to the top ten for clinical trials. Singapore-based AI technology startup NYB.AI aims to cut the time and expense of drug discovery by up to 50% using its innovative AI model, the Drug-Target Interaction Graph Neural Network (DTIGN). This model accurately predicts the efficacy of potential drug candidates, enabling pharmaceutical companies to identify viable compounds more swiftly and confidently.
DTIGN was developed by a team of scientists at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore). It is a multidisciplinary innovation led by Associate Professor Li Hoi Yeung, an expert in cancer biology, and Associate Professor Adams Wai-Kin Kong, an expert in AI and machine learning. The new AI technology is 27% more accurate than nine leading global AI models in identifying effective molecules for drug treatment, with the potential to significantly speed up drug discovery processes.
NYB.AI is currently improving the screening process for pharmaceutical companies aiming to create more effective drugs with fewer side effects for known diseases. Pharmaceutical companies are already using AI to expedite the screening process, and DTIGN is 27% more accurate than existing AI models in predicting the potential of drug candidates to interact with disease-causing proteins. The startup expects that DTIGN’s enhanced accuracy could enable pharmaceutical companies to reduce the time and costs of drug discovery by up to 50%.
NYB.AI is pursuing commercial partnerships with pharmaceutical companies focused on drug discovery, particularly in cancer and cardiovascular research. Beyond pharmaceuticals, they aim to collaborate with universities and technological institutes involved in molecular research. These partnerships are designed to accelerate the discovery of new therapeutic compounds and improve the precision of drug design, leading to breakthroughs that could enhance patient care.
