With a 170-year legacy and a British Royal Warrant since 1914, Stanley Gibbons is esteemed as a leading authority in philately, numismatics, militaria, comics, and trading card games (TCGs), including Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering.

Following a remarkable year with significant transactions such as:

Stanley Gibbons auctioned The Orchard Road Collection of Malaya Revenues, widely acknowledged as the most exceptional collection of Malayan revenue stamps ever gathered.

The live auction took place on 29 October 2026 at 7:00PM at The Library, Level 11, Frasers House, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Singapore, with online bidding available.  The Orchard Road Collection is both comprehensive and stunning, covering early Straits Settlements forerunners, pre-stamp embossed issues, and extending to post-independence issues of Malaysia.

Carefully assembled by a single collector over forty years, the collection includes rare archival material, proofs, essays, and color trials that have never been auctioned before. Much of this material was acquired privately 'off-market' or through major auctions on the subject over the past four decades.

The sale represents a significant event as Stanley Gibbons enhances its live presence and auction offerings in the Singapore and Asia-Pacific market.

Key Highlights of the Sale Include:

Capitalizing on Opportunities in the Asia-Pacific Collectables Market

Stanley Gibbons is establishing its presence in the Asia-Pacific region in response to three significant trends in the collectables market.

1) Rise of a New Generation of Collectors in Asia-Pacific

Traditional categories such as stamps and coins are thriving in Asia. Recently, the region has experienced high-volume, record-setting transactions driven by a new wave of collectors.

Interest is growing with the resurgence of analogue hobbies, as snail mail and young philately clubs flourish in Singapore and the region, reigniting enthusiasm for philately and numismatics.

2) Market Volatility and Evolving Collectors

As Singapore enhances its role as a premier wealth management hub, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in alternative assets, or ‘passion investments,’ among local high-net-worth individuals.

Furthermore, market volatility has resulted in heightened buying and selling activity in stamps, coins, and trading cards in Asia. Many seasoned collectors in the region are reevaluating and refining their collections, releasing items back into the market while continuing to acquire selectively.

These trends are increasing the frequency of significant material changing hands and driving higher levels of collector activity, with Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region becoming one of the fastest-growing markets for collectables.

3) Diversification Among Asian Collectors

Stanley Gibbons has noticed collectors expanding their interests in both traditional and new categories, such as trading cards. A recent high-value transaction at a London auction involved a single buyer from Singapore successfully bidding for both a trading card and a stamp, showcasing the shift in collector preferences from category specialization to diversification.

Singapore’s role as a dedicated regional hub for the broader Asia-Pacific region, supported by its robust regulatory framework and thriving ecosystem for luxury and alternative assets, makes it the ideal center for Stanley Gibbons’ regional operations. “This is a milestone we are deeply proud of, especially as we celebrate our 170th anniversary. This is not just a commercial expansion; it is also a commitment to creating a home for the passionate collectables community in Asia,” said Iain Murphy, CEO of Stanley Gibbons.

“We are establishing an active, permanent presence designed to deliver tailored client services, streamlined local consignments, and dynamic auction programs. We are actively inviting regional specialists, consignors, and industry partners to collaborate with our Singapore team as we continue to grow globally,” he added.

Stanley Gibbons looks forward to strengthening its engagement with collectors across Singapore and the wider Asia-Pacific region through live auctions and community events in the coming months. This marks the beginning of what Stanley Gibbons hopes will be a lasting relationship with the collecting community.
