DIVE INTO ISLAND NIGHTS AT SINGAPORE NIGHT FESTIVAL 2025, WHERE STORIES OF ISLAND LIFE COME ALIVE

HeritageSG is hosting Singapore's largest nighttime event for the first time with Island Nights in Bras Basah.Bugis. This event celebrates Singapore's identity as an island nation through more than 80 immersive and innovative experiences that link the past, present, and future.
Encircled by waters that have historically connected us to far-off lands, Singapore is characterized by the intersection of trade routes, diverse peoples, and cultures. In the near future, lively stories of connection will spread throughout the Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) area, as the Singapore Night Festival (SNF) 2025 encourages everyone to explore our island's rich heritage and reconnect with the enduring links that weave through the city.
The 16th edition of Singapore’s largest nocturnal event returns from 22 August to 6 September 2025, marking its inaugural year under the leadership of HeritageSG (HSG), a branch of the National Heritage Board dedicated to bringing heritage to life through carefully curated experiences. Set against the backdrop of Singapore’s 60th independence anniversary, SNF 2025 is themed Island Nights and highlights Singapore’s heritage as an island nation. Through captivating stories of belonging, exchange, and connectivity, SNF 2025 will demonstrate how our role as a bridge between nations, cultures, and communities has shaped the island we call home.
Festival-goers can look forward to three weekends of discovery, with a rich array of experiences that allow diverse audiences to explore Singapore’s island heritage in new and meaningful ways. These include festival favorites such as mesmerizing projection mapping artworks and Night Lights installations, innovative experiential programs, and lively festival villages with food and retail offerings.
Enriching Our Island’s Creative Ecosystem
Reflecting HSG’s dedication to enhancing Singapore’s creative industries and communities, SNF 2025 introduces new initiatives, such as the third edition of The Listening Biennial and the ALIGHT (A Southeast Asian Light Network) Conference, where local and international artists, stakeholders, and the public can gather, collaborate, and exchange knowledge. Through these endeavors, HSG reaffirms SNF’s vital role in nurturing a sustainable ecosystem that thrives year-round.
Qazim Karim, Festival Director of SNF 2025, HSG, said: “HeritageSG is thrilled to unveil SNF 2025 and invite everyone to celebrate Island Nights with us. For this edition, we delve deep into Singapore’s identity as an island nation across Bras Basah.Bugis, and explore our heritage of deep connections and cultural exchanges that continue to influence our way of life today. As we mark Singapore’s 60th year of independence, we also recognise our artists, and reaffirm our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and nurturing the creative community here. This year, we’re especially proud to introduce partnerships with The Listening Biennial and the ALIGHT Conference that elevate the festival beyond our signature displays to foster more impactful connections within our community.”
This year, festival-goers can look forward to two standout experiences that transform familiar spaces in the precinct. Cathay Green will feature large inflatable arches that react to crowd movement with a vibrant display of color and sound. Named Sky Castle, this interactive piece by Australian art and technology studio ENESS captures the joy of rainbows appearing after a storm, symbolizing hope and new beginnings following challenges.
Elsewhere in the precinct, discover a tranquil retreat amidst the city's hustle and bustle with Kampong Chill by artist duo Yok & Sheryo. Located at Capitol Singapore, this experience offers a delightful pavilion designed for relaxation. Festival-goers are encouraged to unwind through unique workshops that embody the spirit of island life in Singapore.
Projection Mapping Installations | Illuminating historic buildings in the precinct
This year, SNF’s signature projection mapping installations return, transforming two historic landmarks with stunning light art. Local and international artists will project their visions of Island Nights onto these majestic canvases.
Festival attendees can marvel at the National Museum of Singapore's iconic façade, illuminated by MOSAIC, an awe-inspiring creation by French artist and projection mapping pioneer Jérémie Bellot. This installation takes viewers on a journey through celestial constellations and historical maps, exploring themes of navigation and island discovery in the region. With the skillful incorporation of kebaya and batik patterns, MOSAIC also celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and France.
CHIJMES will showcase mesmerizing projection mapping works by four local female artists: Adeline Kueh, HAFI, KangLi, and Tororo.aoi. These pieces are the result of their participation in the third edition of SNF’s Projection Mapping Masterclass, a capability-building program designed to train local visual artists in projection mapping. This program was led by Filamen, a Malaysia-based new media art collective specializing in projection mapping.
Night Lights | Performances | Festival Villages
Night Lights will continue to bring vibrancy to the BBB precinct during SNF 2025, inviting festival attendees to rediscover familiar spaces through six luminous installations by local and regional artists at Armenian Street, Bugis+, Funan, the National Design Centre, Plaza Singapura, and Raffles City Singapore.
SNF 2025 encourages festival-goers to explore different spaces with an exciting array of roving performances and live stages. Highlights include the signature LED light performances by Starlight Alchemy, the well-loved Our Songs, Our Stories: A Community Singalong of Xinyao and Folk Music, which returns with an expanded selection featuring cherished campus folk songs, the innovative Hokkien potehi puppet theatre by Penang-based Ombak Potehi, and a puppetry adaptation of a classic novel by local theatre company Paper Monkey Theatre.
SNF 2025 is partnering once again with the Singapore Management University (SMU) to present SMU Arts Fest: 2560 at SMU Campus Green. In addition to the central hub, two satellite Festival Villages will be featured: Paradise Island at Armenian Street and the new Retro District at Bugis Street Art Lane, each offering unique and lively experiences.
BBB National Day Activations | Celebrating 60 years of Singapore
BBB's National Day Activations will kick off SNF 2025 starting on August 1. This year's celebration goes beyond the usual lighting of historic buildings, transforming monuments and hidden spaces into experiential zones. Under the theme "Celebrating Our Island," the expanded activation reflects on Singapore's rich heritage in food, flora, fauna, places, and culture, highlighting Sungei Beras Bassa, a river that once supported the nutmeg plantations in the BBB area. This year also marks the first collaboration with LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for the National Day Activations.
Singapore Night Festival 2025 is organised by HeritageSG, a subsidiary of the National Heritage Board, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. The festival is presented with the support of Official Partners Bugis Town, Capitol, CHIJMES, and Funan; Supporting Partners the Embassy of France in Singapore, Plaza Singapura, and Raffles City Singapore; as well as Official Ticketing Partner Klook.
