Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW 2025)

Updated: 5 hours ago

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has announced that the theme of the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) will be "Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today". The annual flagship event in Singapore will bring together global energy leaders from October 27-31, 2025, at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the fast-changing energy landscape.

The Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) is an official trademarked event by the Energy Market Authority (EMA). It serves as a yearly platform for energy experts, policymakers, and commentators to discuss and exchange best practices and solutions in the global energy sector.

Singapore Energy Lecture

In his 2025 Singapore Energy Lecture, Minister for Manpower and Minister in Charge of Energy, Science & Technology, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore, H.E. Dr Tan See Leng linked Singapore's next energy chapter to SG60. This new chapter is guided by four pillars: Sustainable pathways, Interconnectivity, Ecosystem resilience, and Workforce capabilities.

Dr. Tan also introduced several industry updates, including:

  • In Singapore's pursuit of various pathways to decarbonize its energy mix, the Singapore Economic Development Board launched a closed call for proposals in September 2025 to showcase and evaluate biomethane's potential for power generation and industrial uses.

  • To assist in reducing carbon emissions from power plants, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) will allocate up to $44 million under the Advanced Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Incentive Scheme to the operators of the first two advanced CCGTs in Singapore, Keppel’s Infrastructure Division and Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp).

  • EMA will enhance its expertise in nuclear energy research by signing two cooperation agreements with organizations from the United States (US).

  • EMA will bolster its capabilities in addressing the future requirements of Singapore’s electricity grid through the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Regulatory Sandbox and Energy Grid Grant Call.

  • A background paper on Singapore’s nuclear energy capability development has been published.

Sembcorp unveils landmark clean energy initiatives on Jurong Island:

  • Expanding Singapore's largest utility-scale energy storage system vertically marks the first time an operational ESS has increased capacity without enlarging its land footprint. Utilizing its engineering expertise and innovative design, Sembcorp has increased the system’s capacity from 285MWh to 326MWh.

  • The Sembcorp Jurong Island Solar Farm, Singapore’s largest ground-mounted solar project at 118MWp, covers six unused industrial land parcels and produces enough clean energy to power approximately 33,200 four-room HDB flats annually. It demonstrates Sembcorp’s capability to transform unused land to support Singapore’s renewable energy objectives under the Green Plan 2030.

Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today

Today's energy systems are rapidly evolving due to technological progress and economic shifts. Energy security and resilience are still top priorities as nations deal with market and supply fluctuations, technological disruptions, and policy changes. How can the global energy community enhance cooperation to promote the energy transition and create secure, resilient, and adaptable energy systems for the future? To foster economic growth, improve living standards, and address climate change, there is an urgent need to intensify efforts in evaluating and developing low-carbon energy options, such as hydrogen, carbon capture utilization and storage, nuclear, geothermal, and biomethane.

“While we plan for the energy systems of the future, we cannot afford to wait too long to build them. How can we better foster global and regional collaboration to kickstart innovation and catalyse investments needed to transform our energy landscape? As Singapore commemorates its diamond jubilee, there is no better time to demonstrate our commitment to building robust energy systems that will serve generations to come”, said Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive, Energy Market Authority.

Key Initiatives and Events at SIEW 2025

SIEW 2025 will introduce a range of new initiatives to celebrate Singapore's 60th year of independence. The SG60@SIEW Energy Showcase will offer delegates an immersive glimpse into Singapore's projected energy landscape for 2065. The exhibition will illustrate how current pioneering initiatives and strategic choices will influence the country's energy ecosystem over the next forty years, emphasizing technologies and innovative energy solutions. EMA will also introduce the SIEW Academy, uniting a network of prominent energy thought leaders to influence discussions on energy innovation and outline new directions for Asia's energy future..

The week-long SIEW event will kick off with the high-level SIEW Summit, followed by the Singapore – International Energy Agency Forum, Singapore – International Renewable Energy Agency High-Level Forum, and the well-attended series of SIEW Energy Insights, TechTable, and Thinktank Roundtables. Attendees can also anticipate the updated programs and exhibitions across SIEW’s partner events, which encompass all major energy sectors, including the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES), Asia Carbon Summit, Asian Downstream Summit, Asian Refining Technology Conference, Ammonia and Carbon Capture Asia, and Asia LNG Market Conference. To enhance the SIEW discussions, the ACES event will introduce a new bioenergy track to explore bioenergy’s crucial role in Southeast Asia’s sustainable future.

A notable feature of this year’s SIEW program is the 25th Conference of Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI), a key event of the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and Western Pacific (AESIEAP). Hosted by SP Group alongside SIEW 2025, the event will gather over 4,000 participants from the region to advance strategic discussions and collaborative efforts towards the energy transition.

Moderated by Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of the Energy Market Authority, the SIEW Ministerial Dialogue featured Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Regional Development; Ports; Science and Innovation; Medical Research; and Kimberley region, Western Australia; H.E. Sharon S. Garin, Secretary of the Department of Energy, Republic of the Philippines; and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Global leaders explored strategies for progressive policies and innovative financial mechanisms to facilitate a successful and sustainable energy transition.

SIEW Summit Keynote Addresses/Remarks

  • H.E. Chris Wright, Secretary of Energy and Vice-Chair of the National Energy Dominance Council, United States of America: Highlighted the U.S.'s unique position as a strategic partner, capable of supplying LNG to meet Singapore's changing energy needs and leading in nuclear energy innovation.

  • H.E. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): Spoke about the reliability of electricity for various applications, such as powering AI data centers, fueling cargo ships in Southeast Asia, and supporting water desalination projects.

Introduced at SIEW 2025, the SG60@SIEW Energy Showcase outlines Singapore's energy journey towards 2065 as the nation works to decarbonize the power sector. The Showcase illustrates how innovation, technology, and collaboration are influencing our energy future, featuring solar power, regional grids, energy storage systems, nuclear energy, digitalization, and low-carbon solutions.
