Copthorne King's Hotel Singapore

Updated: 25 minutes ago

As the leading accommodation on Havelock Road, Copthorne King’s Hotel Singapore is a well-respected name in hospitality, rich in heritage. It serves as a perfect haven for both leisure and business travelers, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a memorable and comfortable stay in Singapore's vibrant heart.

The 311 tastefully designed rooms and suites are truly impressive. With 142 rooms in the Tower Wing updated in 2020 featuring modern Chinoiserie décor and in-room technology, guests can enjoy an enhanced experience. Recreational amenities like a beautifully landscaped outdoor pool and jacuzzi with stunning views, a gymnasium, and even a mini putting green offer a perfect retreat amidst Singapore’s bustling environment.

We decided to book a Signature Studio Room with Club Lounge Access for a weekend staycation.

Check in was seamless and smooth. There were 2 automated check in kiosks but we decided to check in at the counter to interact with human front desk executives, We received the keys to our room promptly and were busy snapping photos of the lobby when we were approached by the Duty Manager, Kumar who politely asked us why we were doing that. Other guests being questioned would have been naturally upset but we took it in our stride, explained why, and even commended Kumar on being alert and was performing his job well. We could certainly understand why.

There was a StarsCafe at the lobby with coffee powered by Starbucks and payment was entirely automated.

Our Signature Studio room was located in the newer wing and on first impressions upon entering the room, it certainly looked and felt better than we expected from reading online reviews. The room was clean, functional, and the decor was a modern oriental theme. There was an AI-powered voice activated in-room device for making phone calls, requesting for room service, amenities and simply asking for help from the AI concierge, There was a complimentary fruit platter laid out on the table and even a birthday present for our little daughter wrapped in a beautiful wrapper. In line with the hotel's sustainability drive, plastic bottled water has been replaced by a cool water filter dispenser. The staff even set up the chaise lounge with bedsheet and pillow for the 3rd person.

In the bathroom there was a long bath, standing shower and amenities by Christian Lacroix. Wow a 4 star hotel with 5 star class shampoo, conditioner and shower gel!

It was 5pm and we decided to head to the Executive Club Lounge on Level 3 for evening cocktails and Sunset Hour between 5-7pm. The space was cosy, private and intimate with an outdoor old school resort charm. There was a lovely outdoor garden overlooking the CBD skyline and even a golf putting green. House wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, tea, canapes and desserts were available for self service enjoyment.

Fully equipped gym with cardio and weights machines.

It was 7pm and time for dinner at Tien Court, the award winning Teochew restaurant that has been serving diners since 1989. Under the helm of Master Chef Lui Wing Keung, an award-winning chef from Hong Kong with over 32 years of expertise, Tien Court has redefined Teochew dining with a contemporary touch.

We ordered a cold dish platter, Puning Chicken with aromatic fermented bean paste, bird's nest soup, cod fish, signature homemade tofu, XO seafood mee pok and a medley of desserts (peach gum, lemongrass jelly, mango pomelo sago). The food was cooked to perfection and was very refined and tasty, true to its Chaoshan Teochew heritage.

After dinner we went to the Connections Lounge to check out the NightCatz live band that belts out Mandarin and Cantonese songs on Friday nights. The band was entertaining and lively and sang really well.

The next day we had breakfast at the Princess Cafe. The international spread consists of the usual eggs cooked in any style you like, western, cold cuts, sausages, baked beans, and Asian favourites like dim sum and congee.

For dinner we were back at Princess Terrace, renowned for its legendary authentic Penang buffet since the 1970s. Acclaimed to be one of Singapore's best loved Penang food buffet, it showcases a wide variety of dishes inspired by the rich culinary heritage of Penang.

A very authentic nostalgic ride back to the glory days. You simply cannot find such equivalent Penang cusine in Singapore nowadays, all under one roof, without having to travel to Penang. This restaurant is also my grandmother and mother's favourite jaunt. Sadly grandmother has passed away, but we will bring Mum back again.

Summary:

A superb stay in a mature, homely and hospitable property in the city centre just off the usual Orchard and Marina Bay belts. For this price it offers unbeatable value and service. A clean and safe room to rest for the night, take the savings and spend it on shopping and food and other things that matter to you.

A special shoutout and thanks to the Copthorne King's team for taking good care of us. Benedict the General Manager, Lindy the Marcoms Manager, Kumar the Duty Manager and Chief Engineer, Vincent the Tien Court Assistant Manager, Helen the Princess Terrace Assistant Manager, Lalitha from Princess Terrace who remembered our drinks preference on the 2nd morning breakfast, and Robin from the Concierge, To those from the team who we missed out, we are truly grateful for your kind hospitality and warm service.
