Singapore's First Premium & Luxury Salt Spa

What a Saltperience! When we first heard about such a concept...we were just wondering what's going on... it piqued my interest.. my knowledge on spa and wellness manifested as I was trying to imagine an entire series of iconography, design, earthly materials and ambience that would pay homage to a truly Salt experience within a modern luxury spa in the heart of Singapore - at Raffles City!

As I started to document my journey, from the moment I entered the spa, the questionnaire - sofa area, and as I walked through the corridor, past the reception and past the consult room before entering the changing room, I then saw it, right in front of me, an entire room (which is rest and relaxation area) to take in the salt, from the ceiling to the walls and the floor, entire deposits of salt spread all across my luxury rest-reclining bed... I could feel the fine salt crystals rummaging through my hands.. and then I proceeded into the salt-driven room (the facial room) for my lovely rejuvenating facial, in a totally Salt environment...and my journey begins..

Introduction and History

Pablo Blau (the “Spa”) is Singapore’s first luxury spa that offers exclusive treatments in a salt room environment replicated after salt mines and caves in Eastern Europe. The Spa harnesses the therapeutic effects of salt therapy and pampers the body through its treatments to achieve healthier glowing skin and general well-being.

Steeped in history, salt therapy is one of the earliest forms of alternative medical treatment. During the medieval period, sick people were taken to the salt caves to convalesce. Thereafter, it was observed that salt miners displayed younger and clearer skin. These salt miners also seemed to be cleared of respiratory issues which were in stark contrast to their coal and metal counterparts

People travel far and deep into the ground to harness the benefits of salt therapy. Wieliczka Salt Mine, UNESCO World Heritage Site, sees a visitor ship of 2 million visitors a year. Other popular salt mines in Ukraine and Belarus receive 9,000 visitors a year collectively, which is amazing number given the interest in the salt therapy in recent years. People seeking overall health benefits or relief from respiratory ailments, allergies or skin conditions have turned to salt mines and caves. Those who have benefitted from salt therapy claim its effectiveness in reducing over-reliance on medications and credit salt therapy for clear skin.

How salt room therapy works on skin and health? Salt is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It has long been used across many cultures to treat mild cuts and inflammation over many generations. Through a process known as osmosis, salt kills some types of bacteria by drawing out water or fluid. These bacteria can otherwise cause inflammation. Without water or fluid, some of these bacteria cannot survive. In a salt room environment, a salt generator mimics the therapeutic effects achieved in natural salt caves. It grinds and produces salt particles in the air. These microscopic salt particles help to clear the respiratory tract and maximise its therapeutic effects. It bolsters the respiratory tract which is the body’s first line defence for the immune system and produces a host of benefits.

Breathe better, sleep better, feel and look better with salt room therapy Salt room therapy is definitely an all-round wellness booster. The atmospheric salt content and allergen-free environment are a boon to the skin and general well-being. It helps with blood circulation and reduces inflammation. "When fine salt particles are inhaled, they will fall on the airway linings and draw water into the airway, thinning the mucus and making it easier to raise, thus making people feel better," said Dr. Norman Edelman, Senior Scientific Advisor to the American Lung Association. "Also, these environments are allergen-free and thus good for people with allergies affecting their lungs."

The Process

After double cleansing my face (no makeup removal for me).. a skin analysis was performed to determine the structure, the pores, the pigments, the wrinkles etc. so I know my skin profile; this was followed by facial steaming and a head massage, super relaxing, an exfoliation using a skin scrubber, extraction together with neat airbrow trimming (that's lovely), skin toning, facial and eye massage (by this time, I was already dead asleep), followed by Ultra infusion, a collagen mask (snoozing at this time) for my face and eyes, and also a rejuvenating shoulder and décolleté (neckline) massage, toning once more, and then skincare application, before a layer of sunscreen..

The Pablo Blau process prides itself as a hub (the 4 pillars of Anti Aging, Hydrate, Protect and Detox comes into play)...that infuse treatments with a variety of powerful active ingredients, they vary from different ingredient ranges to rectify various skin issues. Amazing Salt Therapy Boosts the Anti-aging Effects in 3 Ways Our skin is the largest organ and most visible part of our body. It is highly complex and displays the effects of time and state of well-being without mercy. Inevitably, because of how noticeable our skin is, it also affects our psycho-emotional health. Simply put, the condition of our skin has a strong impact on how we feel about ourselves.

Here’s how they do it at Singapore’s first luxury salt spa, Pablo Blau:

1. Normalise pH Level Our body works in wondrous ways. It can regulate salt and water balance naturally. Perspiration is one of our body’s mechanisms to remove toxins and buffer skin’s pH balance principle, their salt therapy normalises skin’s pH level when atmospheric salt content comes in

2. Promote Repair For the longest time, salt has been used to treat many minor ailments because of its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. On the skin, salt is effective yet gentle in reducing redness and swelling. Salt also helps to repair skin’s natural defensive properties and strengthens skin’s protective barrier without compromising the skin’s natural microflora and integrity.

3. Boost Regeneration The salt generators in their amazing salt rooms produce ionised fine dry salt. These negative ions are natural antioxidants to fight free radicals and aging. They give their skincare treatments a powerful anti-aging boost. The serums and ampoules applied are better absorbed, and this results in healthier and younger glowing skin in a much faster way.

“In order to achieve the therapeutic effects of salt therapy, we have created an environment closest to that of a salt mine or cave, only more luxurious. Together with our spa treatments, we stimulate and bolster the skin and respiratory tract. We believe that these are our immune system’s first two lines of defence against bacteria, viruses and microbes,” shares Ms Nicole Zheng who is the Centre Manager of Pablo Blau. “By looking after the respiratory tract and skin, we naturally feel and look better.”

Pablo Blau enhances and expedites skin treatments with salt therapy exclusive to the premises. This proprietary methodology only requires 45 minutes to witness results as the clean hypoallergenic environment coupled with the anti-inflammatory properties of salt provides added healing effects.

Rosette Media Panel Rating - 9/10

Having worked with facial, spas and therapies for the past 25 years of my life, I would rate Pablo Blau at a fantastic rating. At the end of my salt journey and facial experience, I was offered a choice of camomile, peppermint, rose or green tea.. My Therapist was Eyan Teo, and she was absolutely detailed, friendly, skilful and patient, super thorough and meticulous in my entire experience! Amazing work!
