Here we go commencing on our boutique cafe artisanal tour in the City of Hanoi, Vietnam, covering the town-centric districts of Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung and what we went through is truly an exploration of the latest, most-happening, trendy artisanal and boutique cafes and roasters where youngsters, teens, instagrammers, digital creators, artistes, models, couples, friends come together for a lovely good cuppa of coffee, and along with that, a whole bevy of various beverages, drinks and even food!
Much credit is given to my pal, Mervin who is super familiar with the coffee scene, the origins, and who is who, and who graduated from which coffee boutique... he catches the quality and finesse of the business, and I filter that down to that plus the chill factor, and places that exudes strong vibes and a regular hangout, or go-to place in the maze columns, nooks and corners, side streets and hidden cafes along the main streets and sidewalks in the Capital City.

A very modern cafe with eclectic wall colors greet the visitor to this cafe which is tucked neatly along this quite street; only very trendy and modern people come here, so there’s a vibe with poshness to this place.. not your everyday loud noise filled with chatterboxes, typically seen in those mass-market cafes in Vietnam... it's a good place to talk, chat, and meet with friends and business associates, a sweet spot for couples and buddies to catch up... Coffee was aromatic and classy.. like it!

Next, we visited a designer cafe outlet at Hai Ba Trung which is actually one of my fave districts in Hanoi.. this cafe precinct and its ambience is certainly more localized, less assuming and carefully appointed with a homely relaxing atmosphere.. the moca was lovely with the right balance of socola (aka chocolate) and aptly served by the barista.. We had the opportunity to also sample a matcha latte and that was done to perfection in a nice snazzy cuppa, with a cute kitty face to match... and only then did we realize that the owner loves cat with lots of cute figurines around...

The Coffee Tour equation got expanded with a popular cafe which is existent on the list in many recommendations and that is Blackbird - a delectable cafe - and it is practically neighbour to 2 local Vietnamese noodle joints along Chan Cam in Hoan Kiem - This cafe is pretty loaded with its local fans, seasoned expats and definite tourists alike, and the coffee came swirling with an amazing aroma, and a right balance of coffee grounded feel, the way i like it! You will see tons of black birds varietals on the wall, paintings, murals and the like, testifying to the branding behind this cafe.

The Space @ Mien Man captures the modern imagination of the young artiste in Hanoi, portraying a sense of time nestled within its homely chambers, extrapolating layers of eclectic furniture, nostalgic fixtures and thoughtful art canvas, juxtaposed and blended with layers of fabric, texture, flora and lighting to create a feature like no other... the staff told me accommodation, a bar and other lifestyle spaces would be created in the coming months...the menu is special and the best things in life, aside from hidden cafes, is the charm of discovering a gem like this along a street next to St. Joseph's Cathedral, right in the heart of Hanoi, existent for the purpose of existence - how we term "chance-upon' beckons a new meaning..
Naturally, the coffee and beverages were amazing, but I had a warm cup of frothy chocolate as it was evening time and we spent 2 hours to sample this amazing space that humans would dwell in, to ponder, to wonder and to gaze.. and there were many other grazing humans who did the same, to chat, to gossip and to mesmerise..

A non-assuming quiet type of cafe where u can sit and chill for the entire day - pretty snugged along another cool street in Hoan Kiem.. one of the smallest cafes I have encountered in my many years of exploring coffee joints and cool cafes across Asia..but homely, nice, friendly with it's own distinct character, and I can probably can spend the whole day here to do my work on my laptop, and topping up my coffees, flavours upon flavours aplenty, until I get so overloaded with caffeine that I cannot sleep, but it's ok because this cafe is so charming and familiar... a great coffee concoction.

Running away with the Saigon Bean in Hanoi.. an immaculate structure omnipresent in its modern showcase, in an historic architecture that lends itself to a modern instagrammable crowd / we spent 8 hours flat here for a one day office on 17 Jan 2023 - just brilliant ... the spaghetti was super tasty 8/10 and the coffee just ripe 7.5/10

Thanks to my good pal, Chee Fan for sharing this place with me.. a 24 hour cafe in the heart of Hoan Kiem.. that even serves breakfast, food, juice and wine.. heavily staffed with youngsters serving a modern crowd of tourists, locals, viet kieus and couples.. this is simply a modern interpretation of the coffee movement in a petite bourgeoisie format
