  • Conrad Singapore : Executive Room

Conrad Centennial Singapore has recently refurbished all its 511 guest rooms and suites to stay relevant and keep up with its competitors. We were deciding between a short overseas getaway or a staycation and decided to choose the latter. We booked an Executive Floor room that came with a slight price premium compared to the standard rooms but the benefits were absolutely worth it. Executive Floor Privileges include: Executive Lounge access daily from 630am to 11pm Buffet breakfast in the lounge or at Oscar’s Afternoon tea from 230-430pm Evening drinks with hors d’oeuvres from 530-8pm All day light refreshments till 10pm Complimentary Premium Wi-Fi access and local calls Complimentary pressing of 3 items per stay Executive Floor Room: The room was spacious and had a good layout. We were given a King bed which was plush and comfy. A platter of sweet treats and a handwritten welcome card from the GM was laid out nicely on the table. The bath area was well designed, with 2 separate his and hers wash basins. There was a standard bath tub with the signature little yellow rubber Conrad ducky and a separate shower area. Shanghai Tang toiletries were generously laid out on the basin for our usage. We retired for the night early and had a great sleep. We woke up bright and early at 630am for the champagne breakfast at the Club Lounge. We were advised that Oscar’s serves a wider buffet spread but we opted to have breakfast at the lounge for the privacy and champagne of course. The spread was better than we expected, coupled with a live Chef taking our egg orders ala minute. The house champagne served was Laurent Perrier of course, one of our favourite champagne houses. It was served on a Riedel wide goblet, not a traditional Champagne flute. This allows the champagne to breathe and open up better. Kudos to the F&B team for facilitating this small thought. Not many hotel club lounges serve champagne nowadays – to cut costs obviously – serving house white and red wines only. From 1 March to 31 May, La Roca Village will host a surprising and multicoloured invasion of 40 large artworks of snails, rabbits, swallows and frogs created out of plastic, a material chosen by Cracking Art for its capacity to be recast and reused repeatedly. This initiative for La Roca Village is part of its tradition of creating extraordinary experiences linked to talent, creativity, innovation and sustainability, through the Barcelona Designers’ Collective. Recognised internationally for its urban installations, Cracking Art was born in 1993 with the aim of radically changing art through the revolutionary use of plastic materials. The artistic movement has, through their exhibitions, demonstrated a social and environmental commitment to bringing art closer to the public while creating a relationship between the natural and artificial reality. Barcelona Designers’ Collective by La Roca Village The Barcelona Designers’ Collective by La Roca Village has evolved to become an international platform for the discovery, promotion and sustainment of talent and creativity through innovation and sustainability. The invitation to the Cracking Art movement to visit Spain and exhibit at La Roca Village is the first of several initiatives that guests will discover in the Village. • Lotus On Water Presents “The Crown of Prosperity and Elegance”

SINGAPORE, 29 October 2018 – Lotus on Water is presenting “The Crown of Prosperity and Elegance”, a special art exhibition with Feng Shui artworks by Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi. Held at the historical CHIJMES Hall, the majestic and royal exhibition will be graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Buppha Devi and His Royal Highness Prince Sisowath Tesso and will be accompanied by four other members of Cambodian Royal family. The event will feature a total of 46 exquisite art pieces including 2 mega majestic masterpieces at size 3m x 2m which cost $6.8 million each. The latest series of artwork by Emeritus Master Yun – Painting on the Chinese Fans will also make its first public appearance. This is the second annual art exhibition hosted by Lotus on Water, following the success of its first edition at ION Gallery last year. Apart from the prestigious paintings, one of the key highlights of the evening is the bestowment of the Aspara Crown on Emeritus Master Yun by Her Royal Highness Princess Buppha Devi during the opening ceremony. Lotus On Water will also be showcasing The ROYAL Heaven and Earth Jadeite Ring collection, a rare series collected by six members of Cambodia Royal Family. Inspired by prosperity and success, this art collection is specially curated by Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi, who is a sixth-generation Feng Shui master, painter and a Chinese Calligrapher for the exhibition. His exceptional paintings are decked with precious natural elements such as 24K gold, pure silver, bronze and natural vermillion ink. Each piece of painting is unique and has eight to twelve layers. These paintings change their representation as day moves into night with phosphorescent paint that glows and comes alive in UV light. The latter is believed to be effective in warding off evil while bringing to life good wishes conveyed from the symbols in the paintings. The Crown of Prosperity and Elegance Emeritus Master Yun’s characteristic artistic style and approach are not typical of Chinese paintings and defy conventional definitions of realism, expressionism and impressionism movements, making it unique and one-of-a-kind. Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi carries the heritage, glory and prestige of being the 6th generation feng shui Master in his family. His artistic inclination towards Chinese and Western arts started at an early age and his stellar accolades include winning the Singapore Youth Festival art exhibition in his teens, graduating top of the NTU School of Arts and School of Science with a First-Class Honors in Chinese Language and Cultural Studies and winning the Dr. Wu Teh Yao Book Prize. His characteristic artistic style and approach are not typical of Chinese paintings and defy conventional definitions of realism, expressionism and impressionism movements, making it truly unique. Many of the paintings feature up to 18 layers of nuanced and expressive artistry, bringing boundless wishes of colour and joy to visitors to the exhibition. While some of his paintings are painted on Chinese rice paper, many displayed in this exhibition are painted on a special paper known as Dong Ba Paper which is handmade by tribal shamans using herbs from mountain ranges. Dong Ba Paper is believed to be sacred and can last for more than a thousand years. His paintings are also crowned by precious natural elements such the aforementioned gold and silver, bronze and natural vermillion ink. One of the key features of his paintings is the use of a special paint that glows in the dark under UV light. It is included purposefully into Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi’s paintings to symbolise hope in darkness – where there is a ‘silver lining’ even in dark environments or at dark times. During the daytime, his images gleefully celebrate the best of nature’s wonderful palette and in all its magical glory, from flora to fauna (peacocks, cranes, cranes, Hulu plants, eagles and Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi’s signature peonies), as well as vistas and landscapes which encompass the smallest of creatures and the most precious of lives they lead. Indeed, each element carries special symbolisms and projects an empowering aura of fortune, strength and joy when intertwined. The energising and colourful impressions bring Chi and good feelings to those who view this incredible art in the day. At night, as the planet elementally rotates, bright stars are revealed, and seem to dance and sway as they cast their protective, positive energy onto worlds below; they facilitate dreams and the joyful hopes and wishes of imagination that they embody, as the Earth turns. “The Crown of Prosperity and Elegance: The Feng Shui Art of Emeritus Master Yun Long Zi” is on today to 30 October 2018 at CHIJMES Hall. • GAME OF THRONES®-INSPIRED WHISKY

White Walker by Johnnie Walker arrives in Singapore - GAME OF THRONES®-INSPIRED WHISKY IS HERE IN CELEBRATION OF THE HIT TV SERIES Wednesday, 14th November 2018: Send a raven – Scotch has officially entered the realm. In collaboration with HBO® and Game of Thrones, Johnnie Walker has today unveiled the new White Walker by Johnnie Walker. This limited-edition Scotch Whisky is inspired by the most enigmatic and feared characters on the hit show – the White Walkers – and is here for fans to enjoy as anticipation builds towards the final season. Known by their icy blue eyes and led by the Night King, the undead army of White Walkers have emerged from the Frozen North bringing with them the chill of winter and now a limited-edition whisky that evokes their icy world. Created by whisky specialist George Harper, alongside the small team of expert blenders at Johnnie Walker, this innovative whisky is best served directly from the freezer, echoing the chilling presence of the White Walkers. The bottling brings you right to the Frozen North with an icy white and blue design along with the iconic Johnnie Walker Striding Man now fashioned in armour to fit in among the ranks of the Night King’s forces. Utilising temperature-sensitive ink technology, fans will be reminded that “Winter is Here” from an unexpected graphic icy reveal on the bottle when frozen. The Scotch has notes of caramelised sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries with a touch of orchard fruit and features Single Malts from Cardhu and Clynelish – one of Scotland’s most Northern distilleries. Blender George Harper used the Frozen North as his starting point for creating White Walker by Johnnie Walker. He said: “Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall – so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky.” “We knew there was fan appetite for a Game of Thrones whisky and once we saw the vision from Johnnie Walker for a way to collaborate we knew the idea was perfect and the time was now. From the beginning, they understood that we wanted to create something special, and they’ve accomplished that with White Walker by Johnnie Walker. We’re confident fans will enjoy sipping this delicious whisky as they wait for season eight and beyond,” said Jeff Peters, Vice President, Licensing & Retail at HBO. White Walker by Johnnie Walker is now available for pre-order in Singapore, exclusively at 1855 The Bottle Shop. The first 50 pre-orders will also receive exclusive invitations to the upcoming White Walker parties. From 1 December onwards, White Walker by Johnnie Walker will be available at 1855 The Bottle Shop, Redmart, and Cold Storage retailing at S$75 (700ml bottle). In the air-conditioned comfort of the beautiful Fullerton Bay Hotel, guests can drink, eat and explore over 250 wines. “We know our guests want to indulge in variety, and to learn more about the world of wine in a fun, relaxed atmosphere,” says Ms Kathy Lim-Sheehy, Group CEO of the Straits Wine Company. “And we can’t wait to show everyone our new way of presenting wines by varietal and body-style.” The Fiesta kicks off on 19 October with the Winemakers’ Table Dinner at the Clifford Pier in Fullerton Bay Hotel. This four-course sit-down dinner has a menu created by Dutch chef Tim Meijers. Chef Meijers has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe and his menu showcases the best of local and international ingredients. The dinner also features an Iconic Wine buffet bar, where guests can enjoy over 70 iconic wines from around the world. Wine-makers will be in attendance to tell the stories behind their wines. This is a rare opportunity to try special wines and savour fabulous food in one exclusive evening. Tickets for the Winemakers’ Table Dinner are priced at $188 nett per person. Purchase 11 tickets and one free ticket will be given. On 20 to 21 October, the Fiesta goes into full swing as guests discover new wines in an effortless manner. Faced with an unfamiliar label or wine varietal? Knowing a wine’s body can help you pick a bottle based on what you’ve enjoyed before. Compare a big Barossa Shiraz with full-bodied reds from other countries. Or perhaps you prefer a light Italian Pinot Grigio. It’s just a step away to try similar styles from other regions. By tagging wines according to light, medium and full-bodied types, Wine Fiesta is making wine tasting and exploration more accessible than ever. And of course, our international wine-makers will be on hand to share their insight, passion and stories. Guests who want to learn more about wine are welcome to join our expert-led classes. With over 250 wines, paired with gourmet treats prepared by renowned local and international chefs, Wine Fiesta 2018 promises a convivial weekend with great food and excellent wine!
